Sports Card Things I'm Thankful For

Plus: Junk Wax Investor is back!

Happy Thanksgiving, fellow collectors (if you celebrate)! Remember Junk Wax Investor? Well, the channel is back. Sort of. After Nick, the original owner, sold it to Nerdable, they completely failed and then just abandoned the channel. Now it seems that they have sold it again, to a collector who actually shows his face and collection. I told him he has an uphill battle, but I subscribed and will check it out.

Here are things in the sports card world I’m thankful for this year:

  • You, my readers

  • My YouTube viewers and commenters

  • The amazing friends I’ve made since I got back into the hobby four years ago

  • Mike Moynihan’s YouTube get-together at the National

  • Low-grade vintage with great eye appeal

  • The massive discounts on authenticated in-person autographs vs pack-pulled on the same cards

  • Canned cranberry sauce (okay, that’s not sports card related… getting back on topic now)

  • When a desirable card that’s already graded costs less than the cost of grading — and the cost of the same card raw — just because it got a grade of an 8 or 9, but still looks like a 10

  • Very tiny pinholes that drop a grade from 6 to 1.5, making it affordable.

  • Good hobby shops

  • Collector YouTube channels that teach me things and show cool cards

  • Seeing a kid pull a great card from a pack

  • Stuffing (sorry, back to cards again)

  • Great hobby stories about collectors

  • Amazing hobby rooms and card displays

  • When my subscribers send me stories that haven’t been told yet and I get the chance to research them and tell them my way

What are you thankful for? Let me know in comments!

Fun fact: most pies are trash because warm fruit is terrible.
