Ken Goldin Tells Geoff Wilson to Delete His Post; Geoff Responds

Plus a ton of other updates, including on the Vermont Collection

On Sunday, during my weekly Clearing the Bases episode, I talked briefly about Geoff Wilson defending his $25,000 bounty offer for the 1/1 Topps Now Olympic card. His defense included some bad analysis of Goldin Auctions fees, but also some low-key suggestion that the seller could, would, or should commit some tax evasion in order to make more money.

Ken Goldin was in his comments, as you can see in my screenshot below, telling Geoff that it’s a “bad video” and “in bad taste.”

“You should delete this post,” Ken tells Geoff.

Evergreen advice, as my kids would say.

Geoff posted an apology video the next day:

I’m a man who respects a good apology.

Vermont Collection Update

The Vermont Collection, for which John Mangini recently called me “The Smartest Man on YouTube,” has another update or two.

First of all, I did the PSA reveal of 15ish cards from the collection:

Yes, that thumbnail face is a genuine reaction to me getting a 10 on a Nolan Ryan card.

These cards should be available today (I think) on PSA’s eBay page. It should be easy to get some of these cheaply. Definitely a money-losing venture for me.

COMC has started processing my 200-card order from the collection, too. Check out my cards here. Many of my listed cards are not from the Vermont Collection. I also priced everything at the lowest prices on COMC because I want to sell as quickly as possible.

I’m planning on doing a Whatnot sale on the sets and player lots on November 9th at 6:30pm ET. Here’s the link to the show. If you are new to Whatnot, click my referral link here to sign up and get a $15 credit to use on your first purchase(s).

This New Release Looks Great

The Upper Deck Stolen Redemptions Lawsuit

On Sunday I also talked about this, and I wanted to link to Hobby Attorney Paul Lesko’s Twitter thread about it:

🎬 Channel Highlights From the Past Week

I’ve already linked to my other big videos of the week, so here is my Attic Find Friday:

I got a nice email from Sam after, telling me I had done a good job with his story. The best thing is always hearing from the subject of the video with positive feedback.

I also reached 10,000 subscribers last week! As someone on Twitter pretty rudely (but accurately) pointed out, this is just a vanity metric; views are the only thing that really matters. But it’s still fun to say I have 10,000 subscribers. My kids are impressed, anyway.

🎁 My Pickup Of The Week

Nothing major:

👻 Brief Horror Movie Review of the Week

I watched the 2006 release of The Hills Have Eyes, which holds up really well. I enjoy these “we took a shortcut and ended up in a bad place” movies. When they came out more than 20 years ago, I loved watching Wrong Turn and Jeepers Creepers, both of which fit into this subgenre.

The Hills Have Eyes gets 4.5 out of 5 stars from me.

I finally finished watching season two of Monsters on Netflix. It was good, but too long.

New collector YouTube channel alert! Tony from “Southern Collector” published his first video, all about Shoeless Joe Jackson, and showed off his amazing Shoeless Joe collection.

And sticking with YouTube, Jake from Legends Never Die published a hilarious reaction to Graig from Midlife Cards: “ACTUALLY Short-Winded

I’ve posted two videos about the GAI 9 Ty Cobb T206, the most recent of which showed that PSA authenticated the Cobb as real. Another video where I had great info from the subject, in this case the buyer. Over on Hobby News Daily, Horacio Ruiz has been all over this story. In his latest, he makes a very compelling case that just because the card ended up being authentic, the seller is not vindicated. He also has an amazing photo of Jamie’s (the buyer) Red Cobb T206 collection, which I did not have for my video. It’s very well-researched, and he credits channel legend Auburn35, who had sent me some of the same research. But credit to Horacio for putting it into a compelling, cogent order and story.
