Good Guy Geoff Wilson?
Plus a Card of the Week!
Happy Monday and happy Martin Luther King Day, collectors! Be sure to check out my latest for SI: Insane Michael Jordan Card Collection Found In Arizona Home
I don’t really like to talk about Geoff Wilson, but when I do it’s usually to be critical of him, and it’s always deserved. Occasionally, though, I need to recognize when he does something good.
Because Sports Card Investor puts out high-quality content and often features amazing collections, I subscribe. So when a notification came through the other day for a “Top 12 WORST Sports Card Investments” video, I took notice:
You see, my friend Chris Sewall had just done this very video 8 days prior. It even featured 12 cards just like Geoff’s.
I texted Chris. He’s like me: pragmatic and unlikely to jump to conclusions, but he was curious too. Did Geoff choose the same cards?
I went to check, and also to see if anyone in the comments was pointing out the similarities. And then I saw this:
Those are clapping emojis that I commented. They just look funny on my laptop browser.
It turns out that when you have a channel as big as SCI, your production takes time and you probably have a schedule that you follow. So they weren’t blatantly stealing from Chris.
I shouldn’t have jumped to conclusions, but sometimes it’s difficult.
Interestingly, Chris’ video has 115,000 views, while Geoff’s has 40,000.
I texted Chris back to tell him the only thing his video was missing was a terrible thumbnail face.
PRESENTED BY THE PENNYSLEEVER
Here are the products that I use from The Pennysleever:
Woof
This is only a minute or so long, but it’s worth a listen. Unfortunately it’s not an uncommon story:
Someone spends a ton on sports cards with the intent to resell at a profit
They discover that their inventory is worth far less than they spent on it
But then it gets weird… dude bought followers on social media to puff up his “business.” Guess how effective that was.
Worth a listen.
$26,000 in debt… from Pokémon cards. 😳
On The Dave Ramsey Show, a caller revealed his pregnant wife is filing for divorce after he racked up $26,000 in credit card debt.

Card of the Week
Steve sent me this card, which is pretty dope!
Maybe Card of the Week should be a new weekly feature? Submit them via email if you have any.
I Bought A Car From A Card Collector
On Saturday I went to buy a car. I had spoken with a salesman the day before, and when I showed up at his desk I knew it was going to work out:
He has a football card prominently displayed on his desk, and a handful of boxes on his shelf. (I asked: he opened them already.)
He also had loose cards and supplies on his shelf:
He showed me that he also had loose cards in his desk drawer. He told me his boss was a huge collector too.
Card collectors. We’re everywhere.
🗣️ YouTube Comment Of The Week
Not a YouTube comment, but it made me laugh:
I don’t open Bluesky much, but that was a fun one.

🎬 Upcoming Videos
Eventually I’ll do another Attic Find Friday — I have a bunch of these again
#49-45 of my ACE 100 list
AMA answers from a week or two ago — SOON!!
A subscriber’s killer music card collection — I keep putting this one off because it’s big and intimidating
Amazing ticket collection
The greatest bobblehead collection I’ve ever seen
Swapped jersey patches
Missing Caitlin Clark card in Panini checklist?
A 25-year wait for a collectible comes to an end
A crazy Topps redemption story
Why do some of these stay in my “upcoming” list for weeks? A couple of reasons: a) I have very limited time, and b) something more topical may happen that I want to write about.
🎬 Channel Highlights From the Past Week
This was my third consecutive week doing “only” three videos. I’m currently doing a video every 2.1 days. For context, last January I averaged one every 1.7 days, which was almost identical to my full-year rate.
My ACE 100 list continues to underperform, which is fine because:
The people who do watch it seem to love it
I love it (the most important factor here)
It’s easy to do
I’ll be putting the first 51 into a list in an upcoming newsletter.
I love a big mail day, and so do you. I have another big one coming up this week.
🎁 My Pickup Of The Week
I waited a year or more for the right copy of this card to show up at the right price. And I finally got it. I’ll talk about that search in a video this week.
👻 Brief Horror Movie Review of the Week
I’m sad to report that I did not watch a horror movie last week. My wife and I finished The Lincoln Lawyer season 1 on Netflix and really, really enjoyed it.
I’m also still trying to get through season 2 of Silo. What a slog. I kind of feel obligated because I was so obsessed with the book series when Hugh Howey self-published it many years ago. I was actually in a small forum with Howey at that time and had a friendly email relationship with him. Super-nice guy.
And I watched the first episode of season 2 of Severance. What a weird, great show.
With the Celtics on the west coast this week, maybe I’ll find the time to watch a horror movie.
